Wel, now that the finalists are confirmed for both the Cup and the Plate, a plea, for the re-introduction of..........
The Finals Night Programme !
It must be 6/7 years since the last one, so there will be plenty of current quizzers oblivious to the joys of this production. Who can forget the cover of "Some Unusual Suspects". Brilliant. More ideas were in the pipeline ("Band on the Run" album cover ?), but never came to pass.
Go on Simon, knock one out !!
The season's stats, tables, a piece from the Chairman, and Secretary, maybe a guest spot by our quiz celebrity Barry ("Life as an Egghead", for instance ?), meet the finalists (plenty of photos/material surely exists on all the participants).I'd be happy to provide a Division One season review, and I'm sure somebody else could provide the same for Division Two (Debby, Brenda, Peter McHugh ?).
A further fun page of quizzer look-alikeys, anagrams ("Not a Brain, I !!!), and voila, a masterpiece, and at a quid a go, sure to raise £30+.
Due to the fixture list, there's still plenty of time, so what do you say, Simon ??? |

I agree with Pete, I would love to see the return of the programme. I know it probably takes a lot of work but even I have to agree, this is something that Simon has done well over the years and I still have mine from the previous finals nights. Although I would not be an ideal person to do a write-up about Division 2 (thanks for the suggestion Pete but I can't remember our games, nevermind everyone elses? lol ). I have always thought that we all -as participants of this league- should get more involved in 'helping out' wherever possible and not except the lion's share to be done by Simon. The amount of work the secretary takes on it is inevitable that some mistakes will be made. Instead of criticising we could do with more people offering to help. I put my name forward for this.
I agree too that we should be proud that we have an Egghead in our league. We should celebrate this and hopefully Barry would do a piece for the programme.
Also, while I welcome new competitions in the League (Mastermind being a possibility) I would seriously mourn the loss of the Pairs competition. It is something that everyone can participate in and does not become just another spectator competition for many. Although I did enjoy the 15-1, not as many people were able/willing to join in. I have always thought the Pairs was a really successful competition as not many people choose to opt out. The pairing up with someone which is down to the luck of the draw has revealed some interesting combinations in the past and has made it more of an an open competition. |

Unfortunately I have to miss this years finals night as I am recording the next series of Eggheads (with the latest Egghead).
Otherwise, I would have been delighted to give a little talk on Eggheads as I'm always happy to do anything for this League
Perhaps next year. _________________ Barry Simmons |

Sorry Barry, I may have misled you.
I am hoping for the re-introduction of the Finals Night programme, a little brochure that was a long-standing highlight of the evening, that Simon compiled, detailing the night's events, the players involved, statistics from the season, and so on.
As mentioned, I am happy to write a little piece as a review of the first division, and was hoping that a div. two quizzer would do the same for their division. Likewise, any other contributors with an interesting quiz angle (like yourself) would I'm sure be welcomed.
So, as much as your presence will be sorely missed on the night, Barry (particularly in the Cup Final match itself !), you are still welcome to provide a written piece for the programme, assuming that Simon is happy to put the thing together. |

Is the Finals Night programme going ahead?
If so, we need to know -that is, if contributors are required. |

Sorry to disappoint you all, but not this year, I just haven't had time to even think about it.
However, seeing as you all seem so keen on it, I will undertake to reintroduce the Finals Night Programme next year. Will that do?
