missing scoresheets

Once again, the problem of missing scoresheets has meant difficulties in compiling the Individual tables. If we are to continue with the Individuals could it be possible to include a sheet  in the quiz envelope for captains to fill in and keep with records of that night's individuals? That way, if sheets do not arrive to the secretary, another record is readily available. Rather than people remembering their own scores weeks later.

Missing scoresheet

There is only one single scoresheet this season (including cup matches, which is a miracle!) that has failed to make its way back to the Secretary.  This equals the best ever return figure, which was I think 2004-05.  So what's the difficulties?  The one missing sheet simply doesn't count, for either qualification or points so nobody loses out.  It just means that Plough and White Lion qualify by playing 4 from 8 in their first half instead of 5 from 9.  It's the only thing we can do in the circumstances.

The only thing that is important in the individual competition is who finishes top shouldn't been affected, so don't worry, we've worked it out and had Don Gibson scored a 4 in the missing game he would have finished with 3.222, not a winning score, so no problems there.

I think the bottom line here is that it's not the World Cup, it's just a pub quiz league competition, and a supplementary one at that, and we do things the best we can in whatever circumstances present themselves.  There have in the past been a lot more than 1 scoresheet over the whole season missing and it's not a large number of people who have complained then (much...) over the way things have been done.

Missing scoresheets...

Debby's idea is not without merit. For the amount of effort it would take to include a small supplementary scoresheet, it has to be worth a try.

As a further 'reason', consider this; the number of quizzes that I have attended this year where we have had a scorer who was independent and not playing I reckon can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Usually the question reader reads, and the scoresheet is filled in by someone playing in the match. What I'm getting at is that the question reader usually can't see the scoresheet, and needs to have the individual players and their order of play written down separately. Why not include a slip of paper for this purpose, and write the individual scores down on it on completion of the match and allow one or other of the players to take it away with them - then if the scoresheet does go missing this piece of paper can be referred to for the individual scores. The slip doesn't even have to be kept for years, as I would think that if a scoresheet doesn't turn up in the first week it is unlikely to turn up at all.

Having said that, to have just one scoresheet missing over 21 weeks of quizzing is a superb record and one that all teams should be proud of.

Ok, we can try that.
