Now that the vote and Committee's decision have taken place and these have been communicated to the Captains, we are not going to publish the transcript of the email to Captains informing the decision on the website or forum, in the interests of not enabling to whole world to view our dirty linen and to avoid embarrassing or breaching the confidentiality of the parties concerned.
However, it does appear that the voting figures have inadvertently been communicated to Mr Kidd, and so in fairness we should now tell everyone.
The voting figures were:-
Eligible votes - 14
For the motion to exclude - 8
Against the motion to exclude - 4
Abstains - 2
So, in light of the fact that of all those who "expressed a preference" as you might say, that's two-thirds to one-third in favour of the motion, which is why we as a Committee chose the word "decisive" to describe the result. Not unanimous, not a simple majority, but a clear decisive majority, certainly not a "split down the middle" and also a majority of the whole membership even if you count the abstentions as no votes, which of course they're not, they can't be claimed for either side.
Only four from fourteen voted against the motion, and don't forget that the subject of the motion himself had a vote. We also know that one of the abstain voters was generally in favour of the motion but abstained because their opinion was that maybe the Committee could have done it without a meeting, but which we however felt was necessary to set a precedent in these exceptional circumstances in the history of the Five Towns Quiz League. It's possible that the other abstain voter felt similarly, but that of course is speculation.
Further, we have been made aware that a couple of the no votes were cast for similar reasons, that the motion may have been too draconian. We hope that by not pushing home the full severity of the motion carried which the vote gave us a mandate to do, we have addressed those concerns and we did even make our starting point for a minimum period 3 years, but stepped back from that again and made it 2 years in the event, which aqain, in consideration of the mandate clearly gained, could be said to be lenient.
We hope you agree with our course and again, thank you for supporting the Committee on this matter.
