The draw was made at the Plough Inn, after the Plough -v- Flanagan's match. Sorry for all the 'Winner of...'s but as most will know the mobile reception at the Plough is not the best, so Simon had no results to work from!

As for the Cup and Plate, with seven winning teams one team gets an automatic bye into the semis. So...

RAFA Vulcan Club - Bye.
Old Rockers -v- Beastfair Gladiators
Kippax ES&SC -v- Plough Inn
Crofton WMC -v- Gaping Goose.

Hope that's clear - when the results come in tomorrow I'll edit this post to make it less confusing!!

Post edited 12-5-09 to remove first-round losers

And edited again 13-5-09 to correct the draw.

After having a gander at the draw, and therefore the results from last night, it's good to see a nice sprinkling of second division teams still in this Cup.

I've been a critic on the "points weighting issue" for second division teams in the past, but maybe more by luck than judgement, we seem to have hit on the perfect formula.

Judging by the scores, all but one of last night's matches were very close, especially our match which went down to the last pair of questions.

A good set of questions, and a realistic points chase, which led to a very keenly-contested match, played in a great spirit.

Top quizzing, as Peter Kay might say !

I need to point out that there's a mistake on there.  Old Rockers beat Featherstone Phoenix and Featherstone were incorrectly placed in the draw vs Beastfair.  It's not a case of the scores being put in back to front and second round draw being correct, it's Old Rockers vs Beastfair.

Oh dear, I'm not having much luck with the draws this year, am I? Embarassed

Another way to look at it, Peter, is that in six of the seven matches the team on the higher starting handicap won the match. Now I'm not complaining, and fully endorse and agree with your point about an excellent match, in doubt up to the last three questions and played in the correct spirit all round, but if it had been the other way and six of the seven matches had gone to the team on the lower starting handicap, I don't think that would have been as acceptable to everyone as this seems to be. Just pointing out how difficult it is all round to get it right, and as I said on another thread both Simon and Darren deserve plaudits for getting it so close to right almost every time.

Just like to point out, that also, the match where the higher ranked team won, there was only one point in the handicap and two points in the whole match.

Good system! (usually).

Perfection is elusive and only achievable by a very special few of us Wink

But I think you come acceptably close with this Smile
